Paul Cox, having completed an honours degree in music, served his film-making apprenticeship at Thames Television, where he worked across a wide spectrum of programmes from drama to current affairs and acted as both camera assistant and cameraman to many well known directors and producers, including Jonathan Lewis, Michael Winterbottom, Stephen Frears. Alan Parker and Richard Attenborough.

Since starting his freelance career in 1991, Paul Cox has worked on a wide range of documentary, current affairs and factual programmes from Jonathan Lewis’s 4 part China series (high def) to Frank Simmonds’ Organ Farm – an award-winning 3 part investigation into the secret, billion-dollar world of xenotransplantation made for PBS and ITV. He has worked on almost every kind of documentary and factual programme from the BBC’s Renaissance Secrets and Panorama to lighter presenter-led programmes such as What Not to Wear and How To Look Good Naked.

He also has extensive experience of fly-on-the-wall style documentaries that includes the BBC’s Bafta award winning series on the National Trust, ABC’s Wife Swap and When Michael Portillo became a Single Mum – a one hour documentary made by the BBC that featured the former Conservative Party Secretary of State for Defence, Michael Portillo, taking over as the ‘single mum' of family of four in a run-down district of Liverpool.
