Brief biography: Ian Watts is a freelance Film (16/35mm) and TV director of photography. He has more than 20 years wide-ranging experience of filming dramas, news features, current affairs and documentaries in Europe, America, the Caribbean and Africa. In addition he has worked on award winning lifestyle, factual, arts and entertainment programmes in 42 countries ranging from Ghana to Greenland.
He owns Sony HD EX3, 790 Digital Betacam, DSR 450 DVCAM and HDV Z1E cameras, plus other ancillary video equipment, a large lighting kit and a camera dolly. He is proficient in both film and video shooting on formats ranging from 35mm and 16mm film through to Broadcast video formats including High Definition. He has a full driving licence, and a custom-made fully equipped crew vehicle.
A British passport holder, he is semi-fluent in French, and has an American (I) work Visa for USA. He is BBC Camera & Lighting Safety Certified and also a member of BECTU (Broadcasting Entertainment Cinematograph and Theatre Union). He has also worked as a BAFTA judge.
