They hand-reared the Lion they called Christian at a furniture shop on the Kings Road in Chelsea. After the pair met Virginia McKenna & Bill Travers of Born Free in 1971, arrangements were made for Christian to join George and Joy Adamson in Kenya to be released into the wild. John and Ace were then reunited with Christian nine months later when they returned to Kenya on a visit.
